Harriet Rowley Elementary represents the first phase of our vision for the future of Mount Vernon School District’s facilities, made possible by voter passage of our February 2016 bond proposal. This proposal was the result of planning and study dating back to January 2005. Over the years, many parents and other community members, staff, administrators, and our board of directors devoted countless hours to evaluating options to provide classroom space for our growing student population. This school represents what can be accomplished with community support and persistence for the up to date learning environments our students need and deserve.
Throughout the planning and construction of Harriet Rowley, the focus was on creating a space that is safe, welcoming, inviting, supportive of innovative teaching and learning, and in harmony with the Mount Vernon community. We know that the physical layout of a school and the appeal of the school environment can and do have an effect on how students feel, act, and learn. There is no doubt that this school creates an environment that will support high levels of teaching and learning for many years to come.
Thank you for making this school – your school – possible for our community’s children!
